Pure Sadness

Yesterday's news of the body of AJ Freund being found was saddening. I have lived here in Crystal Lake now for almost four years and the news that a child was missing was frightening.

We have two children of our own and I remember both of my kids at the age of 5. It was one of my favorite ages - starting school, becoming their own little person, learning how to do things for themselves.

I urge you if you have small children, and are feeling overwhelmed, please ask for help. We have all been there. We have all felt frustrated and overwhelmed with parenthood at one time or another. Please send prayers to him that he may find peace.

How Big Was The Home You Grew Up In?

Every time I go back to my parents' home in Minnesota, we talk about the size of the house. When all three kids and their spouses and kids are in the house, it is crowded. My dad built the house I grew up in in 1976, when I was only a year old. Growing up, I never thought about the size of the house, or the number of bedrooms or bathrooms. By today's standards, it is small. It has three smaller bedrooms and one in the basement, and only one bathroom. It's a ranch house all on one level. It cost about $30,000 to build, and at the time interest rates were about 9 percent. This article can let you look at the trends for homes in the year you were born.

A Tiki Bar in Your Garage?

Since I've moved to the suburbs, I've noticed that many people don't use their garages to park their cars. They use them as workshops, or man caves. Check out what this designer did!

My Dad's Retirement

We went to Minnesota and celebrated my Dad's retirement last weekend. We had tons of family and friends help us celebrate. His retirement got me thinking about financial planning and estate planning. Do you have your affairs in order?
